What a droll little world we live in that a scam as specific as this would arise. I have no idea what I’ll do with this newfound information, but I appreciate how you relayed it.
I do hope the self-published authors can wrench some sort of resolution from Amazon, especially given the state of traditional publishing. Then again, this world wasn’t built with writers in mind.
This is definitely on Amazon to fix. Steam has a great model wherein if you've played a game for fewer than 2 hours or owned it less than 2 weeks you can get a refund; but if you've played a significant amount, you can't cash out. They (Amazon) know they can get away with this because indie authors rely on Amazon and the KDP platform to survive. I do hope a good resolution in favor of fairness to authors is in the cards.
